About Samruddhi

Samruddhi Program for Holistic Development is a John Deere’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative with an overall goal of John Deere’s CSR program to enable solution for world hunger, education and community development. The Centre for Advanced Research & Development (CARD) has been implementing and coordinating the Program with field partners; Mashal, Cohesion Foundation and Labournet. Since 2015, Project has made its reach to 20965 HHs across all locations.

Program Implementation Area

Program is being implemented in 27 community habitations around John Deere India Factories in Pune Rural (Maharashtra), Dewas (Madhya Pradesh), Patiala (Punjab); Technology Centre in Pune Urban (Maharashtra) and Parts Distribution Center in Nagpur (Maharashtra). Details of 5 locations are as under:

  • Dewas: 6 villages namely Gurjarbapcha and Pitawli, Jaitpura, Jamgod, Khatamba and Kankund.
  • Patiala: 3 villages namely Amampura, Chailaila and Reethkhedi.
  • Pune Urban: 6 slums namely Tarvade Vasti, Mahatma Phule, Lohiya Nagar, Gosavi Vasti, Shinde Vasti and Sainath Vasti in Hadapsar ward in Magarpatta.
  • Pune Rural: 9 Villages of Sanaswadi, Shikrapur, Dhanore, Darekarwadi, Lonikand, Varude, Kasari, Dingrajwadi and Talegaon Dhamdhere.
  • Nagpur: 3 villages namely Neeldoh Pannase, Mangrool and Metaumari

Program Vision, Mission and Objectives

Vision: “Improve Socio-economic condition of Target Community in a Sustainable Manner.”

Program Mission: To Improve Socio-economic condition of Target Community by upgrading community infrastructure on water & sanitation, double the farmers’ income, ensuring quality education and economic opportunities.

The program objectives are:

  • Objective 1: Improvement in quality of life index through access to safe drinking water and sanitation
  • Objective 2: Increased productivity of Agriculture by 15% /acre and Increased income of Farmers by 15 – 20%/annum
  • Objective 3: Number of students from government school (schools under the project) pursuing higher education (at each level)
  • Objective 4: Increase youth vocational skills and employability

A cross-cutting theme is promoting volunteerism among John Deere India employees.

Work Done So Far:

  1. 7 community habitations have become open defecation free (3 slums & 4 villages)
  2. Gram Panchayats of Khatamba and Chailaila have given the certificate of appreciation for development activities under Samruddhi Program at their respective Project locations. Pune Zila Parishad has also awarded John Deere India for their support in Education Infrastructure in Pune Rural
  3. Through project interventions increase in yield by 15-25% in case of wheat, Sugarcane 55%, Gram 37%, Soybean 23% and Paddy 15% with average increase in return is 40 - 55% for wheat, 66% for Sugarcane, 27% for Soybean, 17% for mixed vegetable and 35% for Paddy has been reported.
  4. Average income increase per annum for Soybean, Wheat and Sugarcane farmers is 4500 INR, 4000 INR and 20000 INR respectively.
  5. Agri-water management intervention has brought 308 acres of land under irrigation, increased 1.2 quintals of wheat yield per acre, helped in ground water recharging, increased water level in the wells and change in cropping pattern
  6. Allied Activity beneficiaries are earning additional income ranging from 10000 INR – 15000 INR per annum
  7. Infrastructure Support in 25 schools led to
    • Increase in confidence level of students
    • Increase in student retention by 8%
    • Reduction in number of drop outs
    • Increase in co curricular activities
  8. Infrastructure support and improved quality education has benefitted 7100 students across the Project locations
  9. 82% support class students of Pune have shown significant improvement in academics and continuing higher education.
  10. Innovative learning skills are inculcated in more than 4000 students through interventions like Support Classes, Computer and digital education, summer camps & exposure visits.

Achievements under Strategic Objectives

Objective 1: Improvement in quality of life index through access to safe drinking water and sanitation.

  1. 4 Drinking Water Systems are established at Dewas & Nagpur.
  2. Construction of 315 individual toilets across Dewas & Pune has led to safe sanitation practice for 1575 users.
  3. Management of 2 Waste Water Ponds in Patiala has ensured better & clean environment to 770 HHs

Objective 2: Increased productivity of Agriculture by 15% /acre and Increased income of Farmers by 15 – 20%/annum

  1. Over 2000 farmers are given knowledge inputs through demonstrations, trainings and exposure visits on seed treatments/ replacement, use of certified seeds & raised bed furrow method of sowing, package of practices, organic manure, use of machinery like summer plough, RBF method of sowing, Rotavator for better land preparation etc.
  2. 380 farmers are supported with NPK micro nutrient kits.
  3. 360 farmers are benefitted through construction and deepening of 6 stop dams and 3 ponds respectively.
  4. 174 families are supported for backyard poultry and goat rearing to enhance their supplementary income

Objective 3: Number of students from government school (schools under the project) pursuing higher education (at each level)

  1. Provided Infrastructure Support (construction of school buildings, class rooms, boundary walls, painting & sprucing work, sitting arrangements, drinking water Unit and RO System, computer labs, smart classes, teaching, learning & play materials etc.) to 25 schools helping in improving the overall learning environment for 6000 students
  2. 17 anganwadi centers are renovated & supported with teaching, learning & play materials to improve the early child care practices & pre-schooling, covering over 1100 children
  3. Scholarship support of Rs.5000/- annually for 517 vulnerable and meritorious students across all locations to ensure continuity in education
  4. 174 families are supported for backyard poultry and goat rearing to enhance their supplementary income

Objective 4: Increase Youth Vocational Skills and Employability

  1. 669 youths of Pune Rural are trained in Room Attendant/ House Keeping, Tailoring, Beautician and Assistant Electrician courses.
  2. 287 (43%) candidates are placed & employed with the salary range of INR 7,000 – 8,000 per month.

64 Volunteering Events are organized since the inception of the Samruddhi Program. 1869 employees are participated and contributed 9345 person hours in performing different volunteering activities like

  • Harvesting of Onion, Soybean & Maize crops
  • Sapling plantation
  • Development of Kitchen Gardens
  • School & Graphic Paintings,
  • Garden development, Pathway construction & Play ground levelling works in Schools & Anganwadi Centres
  • Installation of Drip Irrigation System
  • Conducted Extra Curricular Activities like Drawing, Singing, Reading, Group activity for Support Class Students
